Why was Utopia cancelled? ›

In late 2014, the broadcaster wrote that ending Utopia was "a necessary part of being able to commission new drama." In other words, Utopia didn't attract large enough viewing figures to warrant its place on Channel 4's 2015 schedule.

Amazon has opted not to order a second season of Utopia, its straight-to-series adaptation of the British drama, written by Gone Girl author and screenwriter Gillian Flynn. The series, starring John Cusack, Sasha Lane and Rainn Wilson, premiered on Sept. 25 to so-so reviews and had a quiet run.

According to the producers, Utopia was intended to run for three seasons, but was cancelled after two, so leaving the story unresolved.

The show lasted only 2 seasons after being cancelled and although it ended on a cliffhanger, most of the show's story and character arcs were wrapped up which is fine. With only 6 episodes in each season, there's no filler and the plot always keeps moving forward. If I could recommend one show, it would be UTOPIA.

While the demand for tickets isn't terribly high, that's not to say Scott is a flop. Utopia, his first album since the tragedy, spent a month at number one on the Billboard Hot 200. The album also sold over a million album-equivalent units in its first five weeks.

Pretty much by their nature, utopias tend to sound dull (due to the lack of conflict), hom*ogeneous (since it's hard to describe a world of people living very differently from each other) and alien (anything very different from the status quo is just going to rub lots of people the wrong way).

While much of the key story remains the same, there are definitely some key differences between the British and American versions of Utopia.
